On Creating Modality

Modality was founded in late 2020 as a sub-branch and continuation to our first brand, Storiebank.com (Digital clothing collections). Although the digital prototyping does have its advantages, we soon noticed that there is a growing need from the market for physical garments. Made with the same artistic flair and love, but also with that final touch of craftmanship and finish.

Modality as a label differentiates itself from Storiebank in genre. Storiebank belongs to the Fashion Tech industry, whereas Modality is part of the regular Fashion industry. It may seem contradictory that we operate in both areas, but we think of it as stimulating different parts of the spectrum of creativity, as well as creating positive change where we can, although in different ways.

In Storiebank Art and staff constitute our foundation, together with our inclusive values. We aim at social change externally and internally; promoting inclusion on all levels. In our organization we try to build a more sustainable and circular world in the design areas of the industry. This involves processes which take time, and we are taking small steps – sometimes bigger ones – towards the change we wish to accomplish every day.

In Modality we manifest our creativity and love for the artform of fashion itself, and our skilled craftmanship that stems from years of experience with industry. Through our unique aesthetic designs we highlight the maturity and sensuality of being a woman; And during the exciting journey ahead, we aim to expand our product categories. So stay tuned.

Modality is a word with many meanings and it can mean different things to different people. It is associated with truth, possibility, wish and desire. It can also denote sensory means of expression such as visual, auditive, sensory and olfactory. Dimensions which all come together when we express ourselves, not the least through what we chose to wear.

Our collections always consist of three parts and are conceptualized as a unit, and intersect with one another through theme and storyline.

Sustainability and local production lie close to our hearts at Modality. We aim for as little textile waste as possible to leave our design studio and upcycle garments and implement the new multifunctional fabric material developed by The Transforming Textile Project (Our innovation project within TT AB).

To deliver the best quality products we can to our clients, our garments are being produced with the utmost care for details and sustainable production top of mind.

On Becoming a Designer….
Becoming a designer was not a straightforward path for me, but more of a calling from within. I was born in Sri Lanka, but adopted to Sweden when I was two months old. So, I guess you could say I am a mix of eastern and western cultures, even though it is a very cliché way of defining oneself…
